Hector Lombard thumbs down Dana White’s advice of moving down to 170 from 185-pound – UFC News
Hector Lombard, the former Bellator, CFC, and AFC middleweight champion, has thumbed down UFC President Dana White’s suggestion of moving down to the welterweight division from middleweight especially after the recent unanticipated loss to Tim Boetsch.
Lombard, a former multiple time middleweight champion who was coming off a 25-bout win streak which included annihilation of several top-notch middleweights in various mixed martial art promotions, put forth a disgruntled performance in his UFC debut bout
against Tim.
Each and every critic was confident that Hector will rise at the occasion but the 34-year-old Cuban not only exhibited a sluggish lacklustre performance in fact came out of the octagon collecting a split decision loss.
Even Dana made hefty claims and portrayed Hector as most probably the next opponent for Anderson Silva as he has a huge win streak and has nailed many big names above all possesses huge experience in his resume.
All those claims, praises, hype vanished with the unexpected loss that almost left the spectators especially odd-makers with their jaws kept open. After the dismal loss, Dana advised Lombard to cut weight but the former champion stated, “I feel strong at
185 (pounds), Just because I had a bad fight does not mean that I am going to drop to 170.”
Dana White, on the other hand, shared his view point in bit detail. White was of the view that if Hector cuts weight and goes to 170 he will be more triumphant there as compared to the 185-pound division. White was of the view that Lombard easily made weight
in his current bout and therefore can also make it to the 170-pound welterweight division.
White stated, “Lombard maybe should fight at 170. He made 185 easily. He's short and wide, but I think he could make 170.” While shedding some light on the hype issue, White commented, “It's the unfortunate thing about hype: When there's a lot of hype behind
you and you don't live up to the hype, it goes away real quick. This is one of those things – the guy was on a 25-fight win streak, a lot of people were high on him, people have been talking about him forever.”
Hector’s inaugural bout was a mess and all the Cuban pounder need is confidence and motivation to collide with the best. Lombard is already a complete package he just needs to accommodate in the octagon. Once it is done, Hector will definitely emerge as
the number one middleweight contender.
