  1. it is exactly like having a hampster, exept i like hedgehogs better cuz they are more exotic

look on wikipedia what to feed and what not to feed hedgehogs

also look in ur area to see if they are illegal or not cuz in some states u cant own hedgehogs...

  2. Males and females are pretty much the same. But if you want to house two together, which will probably not work, it is recommended to get two females as they are less likely to fight.

You should get a young one; around 8 weeks old. Any older and your hedgie may not bond to you as well as a young one would. Younger hedgies are generally more expensive; my Luna cost £120 ($240) whilst I've seen old ones go for about £80 ($160).

Please stay away from commercial hedgehog foods; they are pure evil. High quality cat food is perfect; low in fat, high in protein. I use James Wellbeloved Turkey and Rice (not sure if they have that in America). Do not feed fish flavoured foods. Hedgies need insects, so be sure to feed mealworms or crickets. However, keep in mind mealworms are rather fatty so shouldn't be fed too often.. about two a day.

It's usually obvious when a hedgie is about to go toilet; Luna sticks her bum up and stays still for once. They so not go as much as hamsters, which is a plus side..

Good luck with your hedgie! :D

  3. I used to have a hedgehog and that thing was the best.

Depending on where you get them females tend to be more because you can breed them and make more money.

They actually make hedgehog food just like hampster food but they also love fruit and mealworms.

They can be litter box trained but thats not a gurantee that they wont have accidents.

Those also love to run in wheels and run in balls.

    Have fun!

  4. They like to run and colect rings.  They fear DR Robotnik

  5. All i can say is be careful...Dont scare it.They can throw spikes and when you pet them pet them with gloves when they are scared dont pet them because there fur things spike up

  6. Hedgehogs make great pets when the owner knows what they are getting into. They are rather low maintenance, but they do need careful attention to keep them happy and healthy.

Male and female hedgehogs act very similarly. I have had many hedgehogs over the years and have noticed a few trends when it comes to pickyness over food and how they bond to you, but it really does vary animal to animal. I would suggest buying your first hedgehog from a breeder as a baby. this way you get to raise it and you will also be able to get a lot of information from the breeder about care and other stuff. Please do not support pet stores. You will get a healthier and friendlier animal for the same price from a breeder.

You should feed your hedgehog a high quality cat food with low fat content. Commercial hedgehog foods are c**p. It is like feeding garbage to your pet... do not buy it. Find a good cat food like Wellness, Royal Canin, Eagle Pac, Blue Buffalo or Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul in a light variety. Supplement the diet with mealworms, cottage cheese, veggies, yogurt and cooked chicken.

Hedgies will p**p and they will not warn you before hand. Their p**p is more like a dogs... not nice little pellets like rodents. Some will pee, some won't, but pretty much every single one will p**p.

Keep researching so you will be prepared to bring home your hedgie. And by the way, hedgehogs cannot 'throw their spikes'. I am sick and tired of hearing this about hedgehogs. It was first said about porcupines (even though it's not true for them either) and somehow it has spread to hedgehogs. Their spines are modified hairs which rarely even fall out, let alone be shot out.

    Good luck!
