This is a tough question to answer. With pet ownership, there comes many hardships as well as routinely easy tasks. I had a really hard time narrowing it down to one thing, so I made a list of each.

1. Hedgehogs are low maintenance pets, so most of their care is basic. Some things that are easy when compared to other pets are:

- they don't need attention during the day

- they are content even if you don't handle them every single day

- they enjoy playing with almost anything, so finding toys isn't really a problem

2. Hedgehogs are considered exotics for many reasons. Their care is much more specific than other small animals and their owner must be extremely knowledgeable of their care. These are some of the harder things that you must deal with as a hedgehog owner:

- require stable temperature of 72*-80* year round

- their wheels get really poopy and are hard to clean

- some hedgies are picky and will may choose not to eat their food so you may have to try several foods before you find one they like

- it is often hard to find a breeder and/or a vet that deals with exotics

- I found it was really difficult to just have one hedgehog... they are rather addicting ;)
