ok, so qwe have a male hedgehog and we are looking to get him a gf. We have looked on pet finder, online, at pet stores. We can't find any!!.. we did find one but it was over a yaer and it was fattter than hedgehogs should be. At our local pet shop we did find some but they were both boys. We put our names on a list for the next female hedge they get. But the lady said that may take a long time because they can't get any new ones in until those 2 boy hedgies are gone.. what should we do and where else can i look??

  1. If you are looking to breed this new hedgie with your current pet, I would urge you to take a step back. Hedgehogs are very difficult to breed. I owned hedgies for over two years before even considering breeding and even with my first litter I had tons of questions. Breeding can cause the mother to cannibalize the litter, die of birthing complications or have one parent injure the other during courtship. These are all very hard to deal with and they happen very frequently. If you still really want to breed, focus on owning and learning everything you can about the animal. Start your research now. responsible breeding also means that both parents are pedigreed animals, not those from pet stores.

I would start your search here:

    http://www.hedgehogcentral.com/breeders....

It lists hundreds of reputable breeders. They would also offer you more info on breeding and act as a mentor for you to answer any questions you will have later.

For now though, if you just want a new pet, make sure you buy a separate cage for the new girl :)

    Good luck!
