Hee Kyung Seo fires 68 in the second round at Waterloo
South Korean Hee Kyung Seo stunned the spectators in the second round of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, as she jumped to the second spot after posting a 68.
Seo got off to a phenomenal start at the inaugural Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, as she registered a 66 in the first round. The South Korean golfer performed well right from the start, and avoided making bad shots on most of the holes.
Seo was standing tied for the 3rd position at the end of the opening round, but she boosted her score on the second day to further consolidate her position on the leaderboard.
Analysts said that the field features giants like Suzann Pettersen, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson, Stacy Lewis, Jodi Ewart, Inbee Park, Amy Yang, Angela Stanford, I.K. Kim and Karrie Webb of Australia.
The opening day staged a tough battle among LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders, but a dramatic situation emerged when the tournament officials had to suspend the round after a threat of lightening and stormy weather.
Commentators said that Seo did better than expectations, although she was not regarded as a favourite contender for the coveted title. They said that the South Korean star will likely put up an even tougher fight in the next two rounds.
The golfing sensation kicked off the second round in an amazing style, as she drained three straight birdies on the third, fourth and fifth hole. Three consecutive birdies helped Seo surge past her nearest rivals.
However, on the back nine, the professional star looked a little nervous when she made a double bogey on the difficult par-3 17th hole.
Speaking to the media about her performance, the South Korean prodigy said that she was happy to find herself in a better position on the leaderboard. She pointed out that in addition to her sensible game, the course also proved favourable for her.
She went on to say that the holes at the Waterloo course were a little easier compared with those of other courses.
“Last two days I hit really good and made lots of good putts, and tried to be patient out at the wind. But the course is not that kind of tough, so tried to keep simple and I worked really hard during the week off, so I think it worked,” Seo said.
