Hee Young Park ready to defend title in Florida
South Korean Hee Young Park may not have performed well in the current season, but she is ambitiously seeking to defend her title at the upcoming CME Group Titleholders 2012.
The CME Group Titleholders 2012 is set to start from November 15-18 at Naples, Florida, with the presence of almost all the top-ranked Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars.
Young recently spoke to the Tour about her aims for the season-ending event. The South Korean player stated that her biggest goal for the year is to impress her fans once again in Florida and she is ready to take on rivals in a more aggressive style.
Grabbing the 2012 title will be an uphill task for Young, despite her wishing to prove her mettle once again.
Right now her lone LPGA victory at the CME Group Titleholders 2011 and her impressive performance on the LPGA of Korea Tour have earned the 25-year-old star a good reputation, but she has a long way to go before she can compare her skills to that of players like Na Yeon Choi and Inbee Park.
Commentators said that given the hype and passion of the upcoming battle, contenders will want to cap off their season in amazing style. With Stacy Lewis currently leading the Rolex Player of the Year award list, players like Inbee Park have also vowed to snatch the season-ending title.
Park spoke to the LPGA Tour in her pre-tournament interview on Wednesday, where she expressed her confidence in her game, especially short one. She said that on the back of her revamped swing, she is going to inflict misery on her rivals.
Park further said that her fans have pinned high hopes on her, as she has been rated among the best South Korean contenders since her junior year.
“I mean, after all the junior years and amateur years that I've had, I thought I was going to be playing really good on the LPGA Tour and I was expecting a lot more from me, I think,” said Park who has now become the leading player in her country thanks to her third position in the world rankings.
“I think that was putting too much pressure on me, especially after U.S. Open. I was expecting a lot more from me and I think that kind of hurt me for the last four years”.
