Heerden Herman clinches Men’s 400m freestyle gold: Day one - South African Long Course Nationals
Heerden Herman of WPA-WP clinched gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on day one of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Monday, April 16.
The 21-year-old Herman demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the mediocre-distant freestyle event and cemented his place on the victory stand for gold medal. He made his way into the playoff as top contender for gold medal and lived up to the expectations
of his fans by occupying gold medal of the event.
Herman posted a time of 3 minutes and 48.57 seconds to snare the title of the event. His effort was chased by Myles M Brown of KZNA-KZ, who remained nearly three seconds slower from his foregoing competitor and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing
of 3 minutes and 51.70 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the race was secured by Mark B Randall of BOR-BO, who proved his mettle for bronze medal by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 53.29 seconds.
The fourth best qualification spot of the race was secured by John C Ellis of KZNA-KZ, who stayed almost three seconds slower from his former finisher and ended his race in a time of 3 minutes and 56.50 seconds.
His praiseworthy effort remained nearly five seconds ahead of his teammate, Nicholas A Kieck, who ended his race in fifth best place by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 01.16 seconds.
Kieck was chased by Christopher P Reid of EP-EP, who stayed 0.34 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 4 minutes and 01.50 seconds.
Reid was trailed by Calvyn D Justus, who earned seventh position of the discipline by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 01.58 seconds.
The 16-year-old Justus was chased by Ayrton S Sweeney of WPA-WP, who ended his swim in eighth best place by posting a time of 4 minutes and 14.24 seconds.
In addition, the arena appreciated laudable efforts of all participants in their respective events while the position holders raked medals and accolades for their notable efforts after the session.
