Hefner strong for the Arkle Finance Handicap at Newmarket
One of the most exciting and interesting entries for the Class 3 Arkle Finance Handicap is the three-year-old bay colt, Hefner. The race has gathered eleven three-year-old and above contestants for the mile challenge on Thursday, 27th September.
The Newmarket event will reward the winner with the £7,470 prize money.
Richard Hannon’s entry has raced seven times during the new season, and has won thrice. The three-year-old bay colt won the Cyprium Bar At Marriott Lingfield Median Auction Maiden Stakes on 3rd May, 2012 at Lingfield over a mile and two furlongs.
The favourite entry chased the leader, and for the next two furlongs, the Irish bay colt made progress. The final furlong found him struggling for the lead and dominance which he eventually gained by defeating Handsome Ransom by the just half-length.
Taking refuge in the third position behind the winner was, Edraaq.
His next winning stop became the Irish Night At Kempton 11.07.12 Handicap (London Mile Qualifier) on 4th July, 2012 at Kempton over a mile.
Tagula’s son once again got into the pursuit of the leader, took charge of the next two furlongs. He got ridden over, but made all the effort over the next furlong. He was strong in the final furlong, and kept the favourite entry of the race, Ibtahaj, adrift
by just half-length.
Filling up the third position was, Cruiser.
Striking a back-to-back, the three-year-old colt out of, Classic Style, won the Delancey Handicap on 20th July, 2012 at Ascot race course over a mile. In the field of nine, Hefner took off with tracking the leaders. He could become prominent only
over the final furlong. However, there was a sudden invasion by the closing in rival, Dubai Dynamo, which squeezed in the winning margin.
Catching up with the third position in the field was, Starwatch.
At two occasions he won with the stable jockey, Richard Hughes, and once he took the trip to the winner’s enclosure with jockey, Pat Dobbs.
The 11 to 2 entry has been allotted the sixth trap and will be paired up with jockey, Richard Hughes.
He will need to look out for the winner of the 2011 edition of the race, Boogie Shoes, who is backed by 6 to 1 odds.
