The Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 beat Ipswich Town 2-0 in a nPower Championship encounter at Loftus road on Tuesday evening. Late goals from Heiðar Helguson and Clint Hill sealed the game for the league leaders, as they extend their dominance to five points at the top of the table.
Neil Warnock made two changes to his side that drew 1-1 against Preston North End over the weekend. Kaspars Gorkšs and Matthew Connolly were replaced by Fitz Hall and Danni Shittu at the back. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Jewell made one change to his starting line-up that was held to a 1-1 draw against Hull City at the weekend. Andy Drury was replaced by Jimmy Bullard in the midfield.
The game started in lively fashion for the hosts, who came extremely close to scoring in the second minute. Shittu struck a powerful header from Adel Taarabt’s corner and the ball went past the left hand post by a sliver. QPR dominated the possession in the opening ten minutes and created decent openings as well. The first real chance for the visors came just after the half hour mark, when Grant Leadbitter made a powerful run from the midfield and his shot from a distance narrowly missed the QPR goal. The hosts really threatened on the set pieces and just on the stroke of half time Shittu’s strike from Taarabt corner was blocked by Damien Delany to deny the hosts. QPR had seven corners in the first half and their aerial threat unsettled the opposition but the hosts failed to trouble the goal posts by half time.
The second half started in similar pace for the hosts, as they continued pressing high up the field to find an opener. Ipswich were poor in the midfield as they gave away cheap free kicks and couldn’t dominate the proceedings. A goal looked inevitable for QPR, who were a constant threat going forward. Taarabt fired a shot on goal, which was blocked by Leadbitter, before Helguson headed it over the bar from six yards. QPR were rewarded for their patience when they managed to break the deadlock in the 77th minute. As expected, the hosts scored from the corner as Taarabt’s beautiful swinging delivery was buried into the net by Clint Hill to open the scoring and the hosts took a deserved lead. The visitors were no where to be seen, as the hosts doubled their lead five minutes later. Goal scorer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hill-c16217 swung in a beautiful cross from the left and Helguson headed in from close range to make it 2-0. QPR’s late assault dented the lacklustre visitors, who slumped to their 14th defeat of the season.
QPR play their next match against Middlesbrough on 26th February, while Ipswich play Portsmouth the same day.
