  1. 15.2-16.3hh i would say, As i am the same height and have a 16.2hh gelding who is a perfect match. =)

  2. Ok, I'm 5'5 and weigh more than you. At work we have a Halfinger pony that is below 14 hands and also a couple more ponies that are around that height. I am able to ride them all. The horse's height is not so much an issue as the horse's ability to carry your weight. I work at a therapeutic riding center and the Haflinger pony that we have we put adult riders on. Adults that are taller than me and heavier too. She is able to carry them just find. Personally I prefer horses around the 14.3 to 15 hands range. I think the horse's height is a matter of perference of what is comfortable to you.

  3. My barn owner told me that when you stand with your arms straight out in front out you, they should reach straight across your horses back, where the saddle will be.

  4. 15hh-17hh, I say the bigger the better but it als depends on exactly what your doing etc

  5. 15-17 hh

  6. 16-17 hh

  7. probably like, 16.1 and up.

I'm the same height/weight as you and I ride a 16.2 hand quarter horse and we're a perfect fit. (:

  8. Me and my neice are 5'4 and we fit my 158cm (15.2hh) hack well, neither of us are particularly long in the leg.

So I'd go for this height as a minimum - unless your mount is stocky (wide) then a smaller mount could be suitable.

But in saying that I'd rather be on a smaller horse with the right temperment than a devil that I fitted. Best of luck with the horse hunting - what a fun time....

  9. Nothing less than 15. h

  10. DEFINANTLY 15.2 hh its a perfect hight for grooming, you can just see over 8it and perfect hight!

  11. At least 16.0 and up. Weight doesn't really matter as long as your not like 200 pounds. I've seen adults ride 13.2 hand ponies in shows before (trainers of course). But you'll probably look best on some thing over 16 but it sort of depends on what type of riding your looking at doing.

    What kind of riding?

  12. i am about the same as you but i ride western and have a long torso and not long lesgs haha you lucky.... but i would say nothing less than 15.1 and good luck finding anythign around 17 hands. anything around 16 hands will be good. both of my horses are 16.1 (one tb and one qh) and i dont look to big or 2 small on either. good luck! actually different horses can make you look differnt, ive been on a smallish arabian before and didnt look to big, just try a lot of sizes out.

  13. Any horse above 15 hands. Any shorter, the horse might have back problems and your legs might be dangling inches from the ground.

  14. I have a 15 hand mare that my friend rides, she's about  5'7" or 5'8" she weighs about 180 or so.. We ride some rough areas and Dolly has NO trouble with her rider.... anything under 15 hands she may look silly on especially if she has long legs.
