Lotus driver, Heikki Kovalainen has been advised complete bed rest for a couple of days, following the concussion faced by the driver at the ‘Race of Champions’ event last weekend held in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Kovalainen bumped very heavily into a wall during the early moments of the evening. His car, an Audi R8 smacked into a wall pretty heavily leaving the poor driver unconscious.
The 29-year-old was immediately taken off the track and medical aid was provided to him. Although the driver has been lucky to escape any serious injury, doctors have preferred keeping him under observation for a couple of days.
While addressing his fans on twitter, the injured driver wrote, " (I have) Been put to bedrest at home as a precaution, heavy concussion, further tests next few days as head took a big hit.”
Catherine Hyde, the girlfriend of the Lotus driver was also seated next to him while the accident happened. The British beauty was injured in the collision, and early reports confirmed a hairline fracture of her pelvis and hip,
and also a bruised leg muscle.
Kovalainen added, "Catherine is sore and her back is painful, got to look after her now. Both of us (are) on bed rest for a while."
There are reports that the Finn driver is going to stay with his current team, Lotus for another season as well although no official report have as yet been released. The 2010 season saw him driving with the team for the first
time, where he had not been able to win any points at all. Although the driver started his career with Formula One in some very established teams, yet he has not been able to make his mark in the sport so far.
His debut season with the sport in 2007 saw him with Renault while the later two years were spent with McLaren. In 2008, he finished the Drivers’ Championship in 7th place while last year he finished in 12th,
driving alongside Lewis Hamilton. The 2010 season has been the worst for the driver so far, majorly because Lotus, in their debut season, neither had a very competitive car nor the financial resources.
However, the driver now not only hopes to stay with the team for another season but is also looking forward to a better season as well.
