Heikki Kovalainen believes Eau Rouge is a thrilling corner despite the DRS ban – Formula 1 news
Despite the recent ban on the Drag Reduction System for the Eau Rouge of the Spa-Francorchamps, Team Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen believes that it is still going to be a thrilling corner and this change will take its feel away.
“Eau Rouge is, of course, the corner everyone talks about and while it is still flat-out it's actually not that hard for us now, but it's still a big thrill,” he said.
He added that any fast corner is very hard to handle and since the Eau Rouge is an uphill curve and not a straight technically, it provides quite an experience for the drivers.
“Any corner you take at 300km is pretty quick so you hang on the wheel pretty hard so that you don't get any snap out of the corner, build up a good speed down then you feel all that compression as the car bottoms out through the corner and then you're up
the hill. It's still very exciting!” said Kovalainen.
The report regarding the DRS ban revealed that the activation zone of the DRS is going to be right after the Eau Rouge until the Les Combes chicane.
The Spa-Francorchamps is going to hold the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix which is expected to take place this coming weekend and is going to be the 12th race of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
It is a very technical circuit and most of the drivers claim that this is one of the best circuits in the Formula 1 calendar currently as it has a very different and unpredictable feel to it.
In addition, the weather at the Spa-Francorchamps is quite unpredictable as well as a result of which the teams have to come up with a very efficient and reliable strategy in order to avoid any sort of hazardous or unexpected situation.
The Belgian Grand Prix is going to be a groundbreaking race for the teams as it is going to determine the fate of the 2011 championship to some extent.
