Heikki Kovalainen says he is content with his performance at Hockenheim qualifiers – Formula 1 news
Heikki Kovalainen says he had a perfect qualifying day at Hockenheim.
The German Grand Prix qualifiers were underway on Saturday and the Caterham driver was making his way to get the best qualifying position that he can get. He said that he was pleased with the way the car behaved during the qualifiers.
He said he was not making any mistakes; he was also hitting every apex cleanly so overall the car has been responding well to the updates Caterham have introduced. Kovalainen though believes that the potential of the car will be revealed once he gets dry
weather. That is something the team is also hoping for to have dry weather conditions on the race day.
The main objective is to close the gap to the other cars on the grid and improvement is evident although the results have not been so evident so far but the Caterham driver is confident that the results will follow soon as the team understands to exhaust
the full potential of the car.
“We'll keep working on achieving that and perhaps we'll see more of its value tomorrow as it's due to be sunny, and in Hungary where the hotter conditions will definitely suit us better than the cold, wet weather we've had in Germany and at the last race
in Silverstone,” he said.
Kovalainen’s teammate Vitaly Petrov who finished 18th in the qualifiers said that the rain caused some difficulty during the qualifiers as there were some issues warming up the front tyres and that combined with traffic on the track meant that he was not
able to push the car as hard as he would have liked to.
“Despite that, all weekend we've been progressing, doing a good job to push us in the right direction, and tomorrow I think we can do well. We have decent race pace and I think we'll have a good result as we've been showing all season,” said Petrov.
Caterham technical director Mark Smith said that he was satisfied with the performance of the car during the qualifiers. He added that there will be more updates coming in for the car as the season progresses.
