Heikki Kovalainen thinks Lewis Hamilton should stay at McLaren in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Caterham driver Heikki Kovalainen has said that Lewis Hamilton should stay at McLaren in 2013 despite the prevailing speculations which are linking the British driver to Mercedes for the next season.
Kovalainen admired the Woking based team and said that they have really improved their performance in the past few years and have emerged as one of the strongest contender in the field. Moreover, he said that if he had a race seat in such a team, he would
never have a thought about leaving it.
"If I was him, I would stay there," Kovalainen told the Mail Online. "McLaren is a great, great team and every year they are there or thereabouts and if they have some difficulties they are able to come back."
Furthermore, he said that the British squad has got all what it takes to win races and to become the world champion.
"I know from my experience there that they have great facilities and great people and they have all ingredients to win a lot of races," he said.
It will be important to mention that the Finnish driver had been Hamilton’s teammate for two years in McLaren and he believes that surely there can be better teams for the 2008 world champion. Over and above, he said that it is up to the 27-year-old to make
the end decision about his future.
"There are not a lot of better places than McLaren in terms of history, facilities, stability and budget. But in the end it is Lewis' decision and sometimes you might feel like you need change," he added.
Additionally, it is to be noted that the Finn himself was reported to be a potential replacement of Hamilton for the next year. However, he has recently said that he is unsure about his future and doesn’t know whether he is going to change his team in the
coming season or not.
On the other hand, the Briton has downplayed all the ongoing rumours and has said that he is focussing to perform well in the forthcoming races so as to win this year’s championship title.
