http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HG-Kuhn-c1548 out to prove his worth – Cricket News Update
South African wicket-keeper, Heino Kuhn believes the two T20’s against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 will help him to “show his skills”, and cement a place in the national team.
The 27-year-old made his T20 debut in 2009 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MV-Boucher-c2048 in the pecking order for the wicket-keeping berth.
With the emergence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 as a prolific batsman and a able glove man, Kuhn’s chances have been dealt a bigger blow in recent times. However, with De Villiers given the added responsibility of leading the team in the One Day arena, and Boucher losing considerable form with the bat, it has given the player, a chance to prove his worth.
For that, he will need to perform in the two T20s against a strong Kangaroo contingent, which will go a long way in convincing the selectors to give him an extended run in the side. The player recognizes this fact, while hoping to impress when the opportunity appears.
"For me it will be like a World Cup final. I have this one opportunity to perform," Kuhn said. "One thing I've learnt from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 [de Villiers] is to take your opportunity and I want to take this one with both hands,” said Kuhn.
The keeper has shown that he can rise to the occasion after performing appreciably for his domestic outfit, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856 over the past couple of seasons. He was the second highest run-getter in the 2006-07 SuperSport Series, scoring 776 runs at an impressive average of 48.50.
With a first-class average of 45, the player knows the importance of adapting to all formats of the game and feels one can deliver in T20 by playing good attacking cricket.
"I'm not worried about adapting from four-day to T20 cricket so quickly. I don't think there's a big difference," he said. "A lot of people think that in T20 cricket you just have to slog the ball but you can actually get boundaries by playing proper cricket shots."
