Heinrich Haussler striving to get the right form ahead of the Tour de France
Heinrich Haussler of Team Garmin-Barracuda is having a disappointing season. The cyclist has failed to impress his team management as the first quarter of the 2012 season concludes.
Heinrich was eyeing podium at the Paris-Roubaix but could not finish any better than the 32nd position with a deficit of over 6 minutes on the race leader, Tom Boonen.
Boonen earned his fourth Paris-Roubaix in a fastest time of 5 hours, 55 minutes and 22 seconds with Sebastien Turgot and Alessandro Ballan at the second and the third positions.
Haussler was disappointed after his performance at the French race but also hinted that he is getting his strengths back for later part of the season.
He told Cyclingnews, "It wasn't good but I'm at least glad that my form picked up a little bit after Harelbeke".
"At least a bit of power has come back but I'm still not where I want to be. Another year has passed but I just have to try harder next year".
Haussler currently holds the 87th overall position at the UCI World Tour ranking as of April 2012 with only 2 points to his credit.
Tom Boonen is leading the category with 366 points while Simon Gerrans (210) and Samuel Sanchez (208) hold the second and the third positions.
Heinrich’s only commendable performance in the current season came during the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad earlier in February 2012.
The Australian rode brilliantly but fell short of Sep Vanmarcke and had to settle for the fourth position. Tom Boonen and Juan Antonio Flecha claimed the second and the third positions.
Representing his country at the 2012 Olympic Games is the top priority for Haussler which is why he spent more time racing in Australia.
The cyclist believes that the new race plan affected his performance as it resulted in sickness during the opening part of the season.
"The Olympics don't look too good at the moment, just because of my results," Haussler admitted.
"The other guys [in the national team] are that strong at the moment and I need results to qualify, I have no results. So I'd like to do the Tour," he concluded.
Heinrich is now targeting to represent Jonathan Vaughters team at the Tour de France 2012 and is training hard to hit the right form for the event.
