Heitor Alves jumps into the third round of the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro
Brazil’s Heitor Alves put on a show and had the best performance in the eleventh heat of the second round at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil today.
Alves captured 12.44 points in this heat, while Dusty Payne of Hawaii snared 10.40 points. He will compete with Damien Hobgood of USA at Arpoador tomorrow.
Hobgood won the ninth heat of the first round with the highest score of 12.00 yesterday. Raoni Monteiro of Brazil grabbed the second place with a total score of 11.10, while Tiago Pires (PRT) came up third with 10.93 points in the following heat.
Heitor Alves was very happy and satisfied with his heat at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil today. He will be very confident to clinch highest heat in the third round at Arpoador on Thursday.
Meanwhile, another renowned surfer Michel Bourez has notched the third heat of the second round with an intriguing score of 12.50. On the other hand, Simao Romao of Brazil was thrown out of the competition with a score-line of 12.10 in the following heat.
“It was hard for me to find the right waves out there. I finally got some good scores and made my heat. That was really heavy for me because we were really tight and he had the best score. I realized I really needed a good one and that's when I got the score,”
said Bourez.
Bourez will now compete with Jadson Andre of Brazil in the eleventh heat at Rio de Janeiro tomorrow.
Andre beat Gabe Kling and Bede Durbidge with the highest heat score of 14.33 yesterday.
“I’m so happy to be here competing in Brazil and I love Arpoador, I feel like a local. I’ve competed here several times before and have friends here. I know everyone says I should feel pressure as defending champion, but I’m not worried about it. I’m just
thinking about the next heat,” said Andre.
The third round of 2011 Billabong Rio Pro will be held at Arpoador, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil tomorrow.
