Hekkie Budler collects impressive unanimous win over rookie Shamila Kortman – Boxing news
Hekkie Budler, the current International Boxing Organization (IBO) minimumweight champion, successfully collected an impressive eight-round unanimous decision against Shamila Kortman, in a non-title bout which was held on March 26, 2012.
The event was promoted by Jeff Ellis of African Ring Promotions and the ring for the event was stretched at Emperor's Palace situated in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa.
The above duo headlined the pay-per-view whereas the eight-round non-title welterweight bout between Isaac Hlatshwayo and Bongo Lipembo co-headlined the event. Budler, infamous as ‘The Hexecutioner’, had a clear upper hand as far as the experience is concerned.
The number one South African strawweight, Hekkie, was entering in his career’s 21st bout. The 23-year-old has won 19 of his total skirmishes and collected just six wins by knockout.
The whole pay-per-view was a sluggish show of pugilists taking on each other with unimpressive brawling tactics. Not even a single bout was able to capture the applause of the spectators.
Hekkie, who is ranked as the number two minimumweight in the world, is also the former IBO light flyweight champion and lost the title in his only career loss to Gideon Buthelezi.
His Monday night opponent was an easy opponent since Kortman was entering in his career’s third bout. Hailing from Gauteng South Africa, Kortman collected impressive wins in his first two four-round bouts against Sidima Mndze and Siyabulela Khuphiso.
This was the surging Shamila’s first eight-round bout, the reason why he was outclassed severely in many significant brawling aspects. Kortman had the height and reach advantage but with least or somewhat nil experience, Shamila was unable to exploit them
appropriately.
Hekkie put forth the crowd a raw performance and a charismatic refined performance was nowhere to be found since Budler kept on moving forward bluntly to connect his jabs in order to get much needed points.
During the whole bout there was not even a single knockout attempt from both the belligerents. Shamila, in all the eight rounds tried to evade Budler’s attacks and did not take an initiative to rattle his opponent.
The novice Kortman remained on his back foot giving Budler ample courage to attack and pummel him. The eight-round bout ended and all the three designated judges allocated scores in Budler’s favour hence officially awarding Shamila his career’s first ever
loss.
Budler now has 20 wins in his account out of a total 21 encounters and Kortman’s resume exhibits one loss and two wins in a total three bouts.
