  1. Does IL have a "company of last resort?"

In Texas we have the CHIPS program that is designed for children, specifically.

Will the company that you had previously write you as an individual? What about COBRA??

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  2. Legally, a health insurance company in Illinois can't drop your coverage, unless the insurance company is going out of business.  Did they raise the rates so that they were unaffordable?  If they truly dropped you, you can file a complaint with the insurance commission.

As far as coverage, Illinois does have the ICHIP program for uninsurable individuals, http://www.chip.state.il.us/ but it isn't low cost.  Have you looked into all kids http://www.allkidscovered.com/  is a low income health insurance for kids and pregnant woman.  Both will show you the premium.  All kids will give you the income requirements.

    Good luck.
