The Die Knappen general manager has insisted that his side did not deserve to win against Hoffenheim at the weekend as the performance was poor.
Schalke played a 1-1 draw at Rhein-Neckar-Arena on Sunday, April 1, in the Bundesliga as they dropped another two points. The side failed to capitalise on the lead at third spot as Borussia Monchengladbach suffered a defeat at
the hands of Hannover 96.
Heldt claimed that his side did not deserve to win the game as they played some disappointing football. He insisted that the side were way below par and were lucky not to lose the game at the end of the day. He added that the team
needs to be consistent in the remaining games to end the season on a high.
The chief stated that Schalke had a brilliant chance to extend the lead at the third place but they failed to take their chances and dropped another two points in the game. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues are currently third on the Bundesliga
standings table with 54 points, three points ahead of fourth placed Gladbach.
“Overall we didn't deserve to win because we only performed for 45 minutes. It's a pity because the result from Hannover gave us a really good chance to open up a gap in the race for third place,” he was quoted as saying in an
interview.
Heldt admitted that the draw could have been a result of the humiliating defeat at the hands of Athletic Bilbao in the UEFA Europa League last week. He added that the defeat has affected the confidence of the players and is hopeful
that the team will make a fighting comeback.
“We also gave the ball away too often and passed up two Hoffenheim invitations to score. That was partly down to a lack of freshness after the defeat against Bilbao. The players probably felt the disappointment more mentally than
physically,” he continued.
Schalke will next take on Athletic Bilbao in the return leg in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 in the league at the Veltins Arena three days later.
