If there's a helecopter flying about 80,000 feet in the air, and you zoomed in on it with a telescope, would you be able to see its features? meaning the tail and so forth.

  1. Depends on the power of the telescope.

  2. 80'000 feet is really too high for helicopters.

Usually helicopters have difficoulties reaching the top of the very high mountains and no helicopters can reach for example the top of Everest. Everest is almost 9'000m(about 30'000 feet) high. And also Jetliners cruise altitude is about 33'000 feet(10'000m). 80'000 feet(about 24'384m) is in stratosphere and really few airplanes can reach that altitudes(SR-71 "Blackbird" has a service ceiling of 85'000 ft)

Probably telescopes have too strong magnification for this kind of observation, because it's not easy keep the helicopter in sight. probably you will see that easier with less magnification.

  3. As you are seeing no helicopter can fly at 40,000 feet of altitude.  The highest altitude I have read about was during rescues on Mount Everest.  Military pilot made rescues at an altitude between 17,000 and 18,000 feet.

Yes, if your telescope is powerful enough, you would be able to see the helicopters features.

  4. If it's flying at 80,000 feet it must be from Mars or somewhere. There aren't any on Earth that can fly that high. The air up there is too thin for the rotors to function.

  5. yes

  6. I dont think helecopters can fly even at 40,000 ft!...cos as far as i know they are not pressurised...thin air and minus 50 degrees!...isnt good for humans?...

  7. No helicopter can reach that altitude a 747 cant even reach that altitude. and helicopters have no reason to go any higher than 12,000 ft. they are for fast transportation and reconnisance. you probably could see it but i would reccomend a spotting scope. it would be a little better.

    Its spelled Helicopter. good luck

  8. christine there are no helicopters flying at such altitudes. theoretically the telescope with enoguh magnitude  /edit magnification is the proper word/ should be able to show details of an object even more distant, notice the Hubble space telescope which makes fine pictures of things far more distant /though uncomparably larger/ than any helicopter.

at the distances on which you would be able to notice the helicopter flying any astronomic telescope would show it fine in details, but you would probably need to make pictures rather than just watch, since you would be busy reaiming the telescope onto the moving object. so make pictures and watch them later.
