  1. Communication.

    She overcame the problem of not being able to communicate her intelligence with others.

    She didn't overcome blindness or deafness...they were something that she had to live with, she learnt to deal with her disabilities and use them in a constructive manner.

    Seriously though, read the book, it is a great read, very very inspirational!

  3. Helen Keller was a famous woman who overcame the obstacle that many of us would probably take for granted - speech.

    Helen Keller was both deaf and blind, so she could not have been taught to talk by using mouth shapes because she couldn't see; nor could she be taught to talk by listening to sounds because she was deaf.  Her combination of deafness and blindness led to the problem of being able to communicate with other people and being understood.
