Helen Wyman wins the Internationale Superprestige Gieten 2012, Elite Women Category
Helen Wyman of Team Kona overcame the World Champion, Marianne Vos of Team Rabobank after her splendid performance during the Internationale Superprestige Gieten 2012.
The duo fought for the first spot but the reigning European Champion triumphed after her spectacular performance, defeating Vos in her home ground.
Wyman completed the race in a competitive time of 36 minutes and 35 seconds to receive the honour as Vos finished 38 seconds behind at the second position.
The 31-year-old is having an outstanding term and already holds several victories in her bag including the British National Cyclo-cross Championships along with many other performances in the current season.
She secured first place finishes at the Charm City Cross, Rochester Cross, Nittany Lion Cross and Gp Gloucester (Day 1 and Day 2 for all the events), along with the European Cyclo-cross champion title to her credit.
Sanne Cant of Team Veldritacademie Enertherm – BKCP finished 1 minute and 11 seconds behind the race leader and claimed the third podium spot.
Sanne van Paassen and Sabrina Stultiens of Team Rabobank Women occupied the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
"It's her first race back and a tough one so I kept trying," Wyman commented on Vier while talking about her Dutch competitor.
"It was a very tough one. The grass didn't go smooth at all. I was able to follow Helen nicely but I'm not used to the intensity just yet. I knew I would start to struggle at one point and sure it came," Vos admitted.
“Marianne Vos has just returned which made it a little difficult for the World Champion to show off her class during the Internationale Superprestige Gieten 2012”.
She has numerous victories in her back pocket in the 2012 season including the Dutch National Cyclo-cross Championships, UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships along with first place finishes at the Ronde van Drenthe, Trofeo Alfredo Binda, GP de Plouay and
BrainWash ladies Tour 2012.
Vos bagged five stages and an overall victory at the Giro d’Italia Femminile along with an Olympics Gold at the Road Race event this year and is hopeful to find the right form for the coming races of the season.
