Question:

Helicopter pilots license in Canada?

I am looking into getting a Helicopter pilots license, but I've been hearing different stories from people.

Some people are saying that you cant be color blind to get any piloting licenses, while others say that only applies for commercial pilots (passenger jets and such)

I am red/green colourblind, well according to the test i took in science class... but i can see the differences between almost any colour if you showed it to me.

so is my dream to fly helicopters (recreational flying) destroyed?

  1. You can find the requirements for color vision in Canada on this site (scroll to the bottom of the page):

    http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Regser...

It could prevent you, but then again It is also very possible that you could pass a vision test, or even become certified to fly with some restrictions. I would not entirely rely on a test from class, and you shouldn't listen to anybody that just says no. Get the exam and then know for sure. Find an aviation medical examiner in your area and schedule an appointment. They can test your vision and tell you what restrictions, if any, you will have.

You can search for medical examiners here:

    http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation/application...

    Good luck!
