  1. Most helicopter pilots up in Canada use flight helmets (IE like fighter pilots use)  They are technically not required, but it is good to have one, and some companies require them.  They may be pricey, but worth it for safety if you ever find yourself in a very hairy situation.  Most pilot's injury reports are head trauma, concussion, skull fractures, and so on.  I myself am definately going to use a flight helmet when I begin flying helicopters, but if you definately don't want to use a flight helmet, I would go with the bose X or if $ is not on your side, the david clark X11.  Both offer superior noise reduction and are comfortable.

  2. I wouldn't go with either. Check out Clarity Aloft. It uses ear plugs and weighs only a few ounces. I fly 8 hours a day and love them. Ive used the Bose and cant tell a difference except my wallets allot heavier ($500 vs $1000). You do have to buy a $15 adapter for helicopters but it makes it nice if you ever plan on flying both.

  3. I've owned both the Dave Clark and Bose noise reduction helicopter headsets.  Both headsets work fine.  However the Dave Clark headset are much more rugged and reliable.  The Bose headset are lightweight and comfortable. The plastic construction of the Bose did not hold up after months of continuous use.  I am still using my Dave Clark headsets almost daily with no problems.

  4. both do a very good job, the bose will prove to be more comfortable if flying more than a couple of hours at a time.
