Hello, I would like to know if someone knows of any resources or organizations that provide rental assistance?

A friend of mine just moved to Gwinett County in Georgia and needs assistance with their rent for their apartment. They moved there from out of state sometime this spring. (I have not been in Georgia long myself and have limited resources). It is for the August rent. Her husband was in between jobs, but he was hired last week which will put him right on target to pay the September rent without any problems. But so that they don't fall into paying out 2 months at the same time (which would put them in a hard place and needing assistance from everywhere) is why they need this asap. If they can get the August rent rent paid and caught up then all is well. They also have 2 small kids.

This is a serious matter, looking for serious answers. If you do not have the answers, please do not send back mean replies.

We know where we are today, but who knows (for sure-guarantee) where you will be tomorrow ? If you can't help, why try to hinder ?

  1. The 2 best places to start are Salvation Army (770) 963-8802  3455 Sugar Loaf Pkwy.  Lawrenceville, GA 30044 (call first for an appointment) and the St. VIncent De Paul society at the nearest large Catholic church.   Also call Signs and Wonders also called Quinn  House.  I am not sure if they do rent help but I am sure they will know who does.   211 for a list of other helping places in Gwinnett.  If need is still not met check yellow pages for churches and call down the list.   No one place is likely to do it all.   It will be a case of putting together the help they need from several different places.   Each place will want to see drivers license and proof of social sec numbers for each person in household.  Rent and utility receipts for months paid, proof of income and proof that he now has the job, copy of lease, proof of any other income, and possibly proof of school attendance if there school aged children,   They generally help with rent to prevent eviction so they will need a copy of any late notice or such. If a private landlord vs rental co talk with them and explain what they are trying to do re getting help and ask them to wrote something saying you are late and need to catch up if you want to stay in the rent.

They may also be eligible for one month emergency food stamps which may help them catch up a bit. They find out about thise at Gwinnet Cty Dept of Family and Children Services (DFACS)

  2. I'm not exactly sure how your state works with some programs, but if you call the local social services department they should have answers for you. I also know that salvation army give help with money food clothing etc. if you have a local community action center they should all have the information you need. I would check out like the food shelf too they are very resourceful and every bit counts trust me I know first hand. Hope this helps a little.

  3. In my city, Mesa,  the city has a program called CAN.  Community Action Network.   I've paid rent for people.  My friend Linda gave families a place to live in her RV park for free. /
