A couple of us stayed at Trung Nam Hai  last Hotel last July and it was nice.  Rooms reasonable and they had a lift to the top floors.  Free internet and a free basic breakfast. webpage is http://www.besthotelhanoi.com/

Close to all the action.  Staff very nice and it was a safe place to stay.  You might even find a new boyfriend in Hanoi.  Everyone very friendly :-)  cheers and have a good time.
