Hello, does anyone know the difference in Cardiovascualr Tech and Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Tech programs in school. Is one of them more advanced than the other? DO you make more money or more employable than the other? Im deciding what medical program I want to do and dont know that difference bw these two, thanks James

  1. Cardiovascular Techs normally work in invasive procedures such as Cath Labs, Open Heart Surgery, Intensive Care, etc.

Non-Invasive Techs are the EKG Techs, Echocardiography, and Pulmonary Function Testing Techs usually work in clinics or Internal Medicine Clinics.

The types of programs vary as does the training. There are several good cardiovascular programs. You can google to find where these programs are located.

I went through the Navy Cardiopulmonary Program at Bethesda, Maryland, We were taught to work in Open Heart, Cath Labs, Internal Medicine, Respiratory Therapy, Blood Gas Labs, Intensive Care, Emergency Room, Critical Care Units, and Pulmonary Function.

It was the most extensive program anywhere, To day it is a Cardiovascular Program concentrating on only heart disease and testing criteria. The field is exciting and rewarding. The money depends on the area but is usually in the 50,000+ range.

Good luck in your hunt. I recommend you go to your local hospital (teaching are best) and talk to people working in these areas.
