Details: I have been offered a job doing transcription services for a string of teleseminars that will each be one hour long and will run for the span of 2 months or so. I think there are 7 or 8 seminars total for a total of 8 hours or so. But I think I will be doing the seminars one at a time, so an hour each time. The client has asked me what my fee is and I don't know what to tell her? I want to be paid fairly, but don't want to overcharge? How much should I charge her for my work? Please only answer if you have experience in this area and have done transcribing work that you were paid for. I don't need any guesses. Also, I need to know today and give her an answer ASAP! THANK YOU!

  1. The odds of someone knowing are slim to none since it varies from state to state town to town.

    Pick up the phone and contact someone in your area who does this and ask them. They will be happy to help. Then you will have an exact amount plus you'll know what your compt is charging.

  2. No idea, but it doesn't sound like tough work.  Charge 20-35$ an hour?

  3. Before submitting an estimate, make sure to clarify exactly what is contained on the transcription material, i.e., one person or many persons speaking, clarity of identifying who's talking, quality of the transmission such as closeness and/or placement of the microphone; is there conversion involved -- of the audio into mp3 files and who's doing the conversion?

    If the speaker is just one person, then it's a breeze to transcribe.  Here's a range of hourly rates:

    1.  Clear cut dictation of a single individual:  $15 per hour;

    2.  Unclear dictation of many individuals speaking often involving cross-talking:  $25 per hour.

    Good luck!
