Hello Bud repeated the 2010 Betfred Becher Handicap Chase success for Nigel Twiston-Davies
Trainer, Nigel Twiston-Davies, made his own space in the National Hunt season classics which are dominated and often intimidated by the entries of Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson. The trainer landed the Betfred Becher Handicap Chase (Listed Race) with
Hello Bud on 8th December, 2012 at Aintree race course over three miles and two furlongs.
Some potential entries in the race included Join Together trained by, Paul Nicholls, Tom George conditioned, Big Fella Thanks, and the dual representation of trainer, David Pipe, Swing Bill and Problema Tic.
The fourteen-year-old bay gelding, Hello Bud, went back to the refreshing memories of season 2010 when he claimed the winner’s prize money of the same race, and that too with the same jockey, Sam Twiston-Davies.
The trainer has won the race with Indian Tonic in 1993 then with Young Hustler in 1995. Earth Summit got him the title in 1998 and then Hello Bud filled in the drought in 2010.
Even though Join Together could not win the race, he denied the leader winning margin any more than a negligible neck’s mark. The winner was truly obedient to the jockey, responding accordingly to each asking. The runner-up in the meanwhile tried all that
he could to grind in the distance and raced bravely.
The winning jockey said: "He absolutely ran his heart out for me. He means everything to me. I just can't tell you just how much I love this horse. He's given us so much pleasure over the years. It's such an emotional moment."
The winning trainer said: "The run-in was just awful, but thank goodness he hung on. As to the future, let's see. How can you really say retire when he obviously enjoys it so much? He kept going all the way to the line and as he jumped round there, he looked
like a horse who was having a nice time."
For trainer, Paul Nicholls, the race was a second loss as he missed the Becher with Join Together to the Nicky Henderson trained, Sprinter Sacre. However, in both the races, the trainees of the champion trainer did not give up easily and gave the opponents
true competition.
