Hello Bud to face younger competitors in the Stone Source Grand Veterans´ Handicap
Hello Bud, the fourteen-year-old gelding, will compete in the Class 3 Stone Source Grand Veterans´ Handicap Chase at Cartmel on 6th June, 2012, where he will aim to notch a victory over the lengthy course of 3 miles and 6 furlongs.
The son of Jurado, out of mare Orchestral Sport, previously competed in the Grade 3 John Smith's Grand National Chase (Handicap) at Aintree on 14th April, 2012, and finished seventh under jockey, Sam Twiston-Davies, son of trainer,
Nigel Twiston-Davies.
Being the oldest competitor on the track, the bay gelding will have to bring everything he has against a good lot of runners, but his vast experience accumulated over the course of his career, definitely gives him an edge.
The Seamus Murphy owned runner previously downed a victory in the Totesport.com Becher Handicap Chase at Aintree in November 2010, where he defeated Royal Rosa by 1 ¼ lengths.
It has been a while since the runner has scored but his performances have been respectable.
The trainer is pleased with his chances in the coming race and looks cheerful.
"The race is ideal for him, a staying chase for veterans and on one of my favourite courses."
The trainer further added:
"It should be right up his street and he goes there in really good nick. I am very optimistic."
Huckleberry, trained by Tony Carroll, for owners, Trevor Mennell and Kathie Gwilliam, is also competing and looks in good form.
At age ten, the bay gelding still has the determination and fervour that some younger runners may not have, as he excelled in the Freebets.co.uk Free Betting Handicap Chase on 3rd May, 2012.
Justifying his status of race favourite, the son of Hubbly Bubbly, out of mare Laur´s Melody, aced the race and came out on top as he defeated, Prime Edition, by 7 large lengths.
If Huckleberry succeeds in this race, it will be his fifth consecutive victory and this is enough to establish his connections’ confidence in him.
Tony Carroll stated: "He is in really good form and I would be extremely hopeful of him going very close again."
