Hello...Can anyone who holds a green card and joined the coast guard please tell how it is for you.?

Also I would like to know what documents you had to show and so forth, also I did not attend high school in america but I attended college. would that be a problem? looking for all the help I can get.

  1. Steve is right. As for joining the coast guard, I would think the requirements are pretty much the same as any other military branch. But, it depends on what kind of green card you have. If you mean a permanent resident card, then yes, you can join the military. But if you have a student visa, then you must apply for a work visa or become a permanent resident.

    I joined (the army) as a permanent resident. After I got to my first duty station, I was able to apply for citizenship. It was easy and did not cost me a thing. The military pays for it all. The toughtest part was waiting for the USCIS to give me a date.

    Also, most branches in the military will give you when they call incentive bonuses. Like they'll give you money for every 30 college credit hours you've completed, a sign on bonus, a MOS based bonus, etc. There's money in the military. You just have to know how to get it. Do your research before you talk to recruiters! They'll do anything to get a first time enlistee.

  2. I am not sure bout coast guard but in the the regular military Branch's you can, cause after so long they give you your citizenship!
