I would say the bank offers 1 to 2 percent interest on your money in the financial industry there is a rule called the rule of 72 which tells  take the interest rate and divide it by 72 and it will tell you how many years it will take for your money to double if your looking to invest look at mutual funds or iras looking to just put money away place it in a money market account  at least you get  any where from 4 to 6 percent on your money

For now, put it in a bank account. There is no use keeping it under your mattress. Make sure you find a bank account that doesn't charge you a monthly fee.

I can't tell you which bank to use because it totally depends on your location, and your circumstances. Are you a college student? How old are you, etc...
