Im Irish and I was bringing car back to Ireland, the Republic. I was just stopped as there was no tax on the car. As far as I am aware Republic of Ireland and UK arent linked up. Ive never drove without insurance before but I just took a chance even though simple phonecall to my insurance company woul hav coverd it. Anyways whats done its done and Im wondering what the court is gona do.. I will b ok with a ban on uk roads as prob wont drive there again,Im just concerned wheter its gona affect me in Ireland... Im gona get a solicitor to argue my case c if I coul get away with ban and fine..Please no sarcastic comments I know what I did, I just need to know if anybody has been in a similar situation as me?

  1. Depends on how long you have been driving as no insurance at court is usually a straight 6 points and if you have only a 6 point license then im afraid you will lose it.

  2. Well, a friend of mine got done for drink-driving in Ireland, and that pretty much screwed him in England, so I think there must be some sort of reciprocal arrangement going on.

Unlucky, if it was your first time. Well deserved, if it was not.

  3. Get a solicitor to make your case for you, see one as soon as possible.

    10 points please

  4. I'm afraid they are "linked up" now. A ban in any EU country now equals a ban in all of them.  However, the offence in the UK gets you 6 - 8 points plus a fine, it may not lead to a ban . . .

  5. The UK and Ireland have recently completed an agreement whereby driving bans from one country will be honoured by the other.  You are, to put it simply, stuffed.  You knew one phone call would have taken care of things and for whatever reason didn't bother.  You'll find sympathy in a dictionary, somewhere between "s**t" and "syphilis".
