My question is, how do you prevent body boarding rashes on my stomach and chest? What, if anything, can I put on the board(i.e., Vasaline, wax) to prevent this? Im asking experienced body boarders.

  1. ok. you want to buy yourself a rash vest... otherwise known as a rashie if you want the lingo. try and go for a long sleeved one cause that will prevent your inner arms from getting rashes from the board from paddling.

if you get a rash put petroleom jelly on your self wherever your rash is. its a thick base so you wont slip off the board. usually its best you put in on and then put your rashie on over it... the jelly will soak into the material and it will stop you from getting rash's for a LONG time.

dont' even think about wearing a t-shirt... you'll get the worst rash on your nipples... i've tried that haha.

  2. i'm guessing that you never noticed all the other guys out there with RASHGUARDS on. and i'm also guessing that, after seeing those RASHGUARDS, you didnt put 2 and 2 together. wow.

  3. get a rash guard they are the same price as a regular t shirt

  4. Wear a rash guard. Now just think about what would happen if you used vaseline (a lubricant). Don't you think you would slide off your board?

  5. yeah dude wear a rashie ie rash shurt if it still happns u might still have sand on ur board that happns to me when i get a rash

  6. wear a rashguard or a wetsuit to prevent a rash. you'll find that while a wetsuit keeps in the warmth, a rashguard can keep in the cold (it's irrelevant to the question, but I thought I'd add it in just to help you out :] )

Also, it sounds odd, but before I go in the water, I sometimes rub some diaper rash cream over my stomach. It soothes the rash, and prevents one from occuring while I'm out riding. However, it is white, and looks like you forgot to rub your sunscreen on, but if you're actually out riding the waves, you'll be on your stomach most of the time anyway. Vasaline also helps, so if you don't want a white stomach, then use that. You may slip a bit on your board though, so you might want to put a little bit of wax on the nose (top) and tail (bottom end) of your board, to prevent you from slipping around too much. I've also found that the higher quality the board, and the newer it is, the less rash you'll get, just because the board isn't as rough and beat up yet.

Or, you can tough it out. That's what I do now. Just a warning though- I 'toughed it out' for a number of years, and now have a few little scars on my stomach from my rash causing my stomach to bleed.

Really, humans weren't meant to be in the water for hours at a time, laying on their stomachs on boards, moving around... so you'll have to expect some pain once in a while. But ultimately, I find that riding the wave makes it all worth while.

  7. wear a rash guard not only do they stop rashes they can prevent wicked sunburns

  8. Wear a rash guard-this is a must even on the hottest days!  The t shirt variety is best.

  9. Ditto. Rash guard. And don't just wear a cotton tee, that still gives you a rash.
