Hello Kiwis!!! I was wondering how long the trees in NZ have leaves?

According to the web I have learned these are the seasons

Spring - September, October, November

Summer - December, January, February

Autumn - March, April, May

Winter - June, July, August

Pretty much the same as many other countries, the leaves fall off in  the Autumn and come back in Spring. Different varieties have different fall rates. There are even evergreens.

New Zealand native trees are all evergreen except the kowhai which loses its leaves. And yes, we do have snow! Plenty of it. At the moment Christchurch and south have had snow in the last month. A couple of years ago Christchurch had snow on their beach at Brighton! We also have many exotic              ( introduced) trees which lose their leaves, so in the colder regions of New Zealand you will get wonderful colours in autumn. Even in Auckland where we don't have snow liquid ambers make a great show.

Yes, even in winter when it snows (mainly down south) a lot of tree's keep their leaves

what! those first two are wrong. all our native forests have leaves all year round. they never lose leaves. i can look out the window of my farm right now!

the only trees here that lose leaves in winter are the introduced trees. we have lots of those in citys and on farms, but none in our forests.... (except for pine forests which are pinus radiata for logging. we have no native pines tho. pinus radiata and all other pines are introduced.)

your right about the seasons tho. its the same for all the southern hemisphere. southern hemisphere and northern hemisphere have seasons at the opposite time of the year. the further away you are from the equator, the more noticable the difference in the seasons are. at the equator there is almost no difference between seasons

edit: evergreen trees everywhere in the world keep their leaves no matter how cold it is. yeah it snows here. i live on the east coast of the south island and we had snow down to sea level two weeks ago:)

We have very few NATIVE trees in New Zealand that are deciduous...off the top of my head its really only the Kowhai and native fuchsia and thats it....I think its to do with the milder ( more oceanic compared to continental climates) climates.

We do have some trees which shed more leaves at certain times of the year, but keep some so always have leaves.

In the cities/towns there tend to be lots of the "classic" trees and not native so you will see trees losing leaves in our autumn (march-may) or whereever they occur, just like anywhere else.
