Can you convert a DVD player to multi region or can it be "unlocked" as with a mobile phone ? If so , how?

  1. You need to check on the net for the make and model of your dvd player, if you find it there will be instructions (if its possible) on how to change the regions. Some dvd's let you change regions a few times before locking up. DVD players are very cheap - why not buy a multi region one.

  2. put it on ebay and buy another one that plays all types of disc i f you  havnt had it too long take it back to the shop for a refund saying its faulty

  3. Almost all of the DVD players can be made region free (or unlocked).  The issues becomes the method of the unlocking process.  Most low end cheap DVD players can be unlocked using a special key combination entered through the remote and bringing up a hidden menu option in DVD player menu.  Philips, Oppo and cheaper players in Walmart can be  unlocked this way easily.  Most high end players such as Sony and Pioneer will require and actual chip replacement where you would have to send the player in the mail to get it done and there is no practical way for you to do it on your own.  If you want to check to see if you player can be unlocked  with a hidden remote key combination, go to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks

and search for your DVD player.  Good luck.

  4. Go to www.moneysavingexpert.com there is a ling or thread that tell you how to make your player muti-regional

  5. Hi Skypilot,

As mentioned above, there are definitely ways to convert your DVD player to a multiregion. Some of them are above board but only allow you to change it a few times before 'locking' on to one. Other methods are 'hacks' and you could run the risk of damaging your machine.

Or you could buy a new one. We've pulled together a list of over 80 here: http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/cl/4/DVD-Pl...

The least expensive comes in at £17.99 (Compacks) but there is a Sony for £35 that might be worth looking at.

    Good luck, Jordan (from PriceRunner.co.uk)
