  1. I just been making this tiny savoury scones, about the size of 50p piece with thyme in the mix, then we spread soft cheese and red onion chutney in them.

Eton mess is an easy pudding to make, just mix whipped cream with crushed meringue and strawberries or raspberries.

  2. If you are like me and hate to buy premade platers, I like the mom's touch myself.  These are some of my kids fav. ages 7-15 .

(not cold but great for kids!!)

    - little smokie winers wraped in 1/3 slice of bacon, (stick tooth pick threw it) sprinkled with brown sugar and baked until bacon is crisp.

    - cook reg. sausage in skillet when done add 1  8oz cream cheese and 1 can mild rotel tomatos.  serve as dip with tortilla chips.

Now this one I've not made but it got great reviews from this cooking site I go to.. allrecipies.com

    DIRECTIONS

In a large bowl, thoroughly mix kiwis, Golden Delicious apples, raspberries, strawberries, white sugar, brown sugar and fruit preserves. Cover and chill in the refrigerator at least 15 minutes.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Coat one side of each flour tortilla with butter flavored cooking spray. Cut into wedges and arrange in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Sprinkle wedges with desired amount of cinnamon sugar. Spray again with cooking spray.

Bake in the preheated oven 8 to 10 minutes. Repeat with any remaining tortilla wedges. Allow to cool approximately 15 minutes. Serve with chilled fruit mixture.

hope one of these helps... good luck

  3. I prefer making my own party platters - they end up nicer and cheaper!  One is just veggies and a couple dips for them (try a curry one as an option - people love it and it's so simple to make!) and the other is a cut up fruit plate (I tend to look for sales) with a marshmallow fluff dip (easily found on google).

Then have a tray of that party pumpernickel bread (the little one) and put salmon flavored cream cheese on it with a little sprig of dill.  Also make some with egg salad.  They're perfect finger food.

Then maybe a 7 layer dip with the large dipper fritos and you're set!

Steer clear of buffalo wings.  They're a disaster at events like this!

  4. Cheese crackers,Fruit, lile cookies and popcourn.

  5. Pre-order platters(cold meats, antipasto, cheese and crackers), gourmet pizzas,

pre-make some bruchetta, dips, satay sticks, finger sandwiches.

Maybe you should have a BBQ, because then, more than likely there will be someone who could take over while you do other party related duties.

  6. We did this last week for 70 people:

Cook sausage rolls in advance, then serve cold

    Sausages on cocktail sticks

Blinis with cream cheese / cream and horseradish and smoked salmon

Seasoned / flavoured chicken on cocktail sticks

Cheese and grapes on cocktail sticks

    All went down a treat

    Good luck

  7. Marks and Spencer's do some brilliant party platters..you pre-order them and collect from store on the morning they are wanted..if you want to spend this much..and you can fill them out with bowls of potato snacks, nuts, small pork pies (cut in half, I know they are not fashionable but no guest at one of my family's buffets has ever seemed to be put off by that )' coleslaw and potato salad  and a couple of small bowls of cherry tomatoes.

Otherwise buy a load of fresh finger rolls and fill them with ham, prawns and mayonnaise, egg mayonnaise and so on..you can buy some very nice fresh sandwich fillers from your local supermarket and if you sprinkle a little fine chopped chive or spring onion around it all looks home made..and make sure that there are some salad filled rolls for the vegetarians. box them straight up into plastic containers with snap on lids, lined with paper napkins and keep them in the fridge overnight, they will be fine. Don't bother with chicken portions, they are sticky to handle and you keep finding bones around the sitting room for days afterwards. A couple of pates and a wedge of good Cheddar or double Gloucester and a brie or Camembert in  its box, with crackers a block of butter and some butter knives or plastic picnic knives always looks good on the table..a bowl of silver skin onions at either end of the table goes down well too. Make sure that you have plenty of tea, coffee, milk and sugar in the kitchen and a helper who is willing to go and make them up as required and to collect and wash the empty cups of course..if the party is in the middle of the day then many of your guests will not be able to have more than one or two alcoholic drinks and you should not bother to provide more for the idiots who don't care.

Make a long shopping list, try out anything you are not sure of in advance, and if there are any good cooks in the family ask them to make a couple of fancy quiches, people love helping out on this sort of occasion. On the night before the party set out your table with empty plates and cutlery and drape a cloth over everything so that it will only take a short time to set out the food when you are ready to do so. And if the weather is good then a couple of picnic blankets in the garden will allow you to throw the kids outside with their ice cream or whatever without offending their parents, especially if you ask a couple of the older children to take charge.

  8. Grocery Store Party Platters. I don't know how far in advance you have to call for them though. The ones with fruit or cheese should be pre-made, but if you wanted sandwiches you have to call your grocery store in advance.

  9. Platters of premade sandwiches

Cold pasta salad and/or potato salad

    Cheese & Crackers

    Chips & dip

    Fruit platter

    Veggie platter...with dip

    Dessert platter.....cookies, brownies,etc.

Assorted beverages....water, soda, iced tea, etc.

  10. Crudites with a dip (blue cheese/thousand island)

    Nachos with salsa/guacamole

Smoked salmon and cream cheese on bread

    popcorn

    nuts/pretzels/bombay mix/oriental rice crackers

    cheese and pineapple on sticks

  11. order cold meat .. like slices of ham .. chicken satey (chicken pieces on sticks)

fruit part with a dip of yougurt.

    salads.

anything that can be kept for a while.

no need to ook just order out.

like nachos and tacos and things like that.

    noodles

  12. donuts, crisps, nuts, pretzels, finger sandwiches e.g. ham/cheese etc.

good luck and hope i helped! =)
