  1. Yes, my mom loves to tell the story of me screaming when meeting a neighbor for the first time, and finding out later that he was a child molester. Meeting someone consumed by darkness is always an uncomfortable experience for me, but once I acknowledge what I'm feeling and why I can deal with it. I don't stay around that person long, but I, no longer, scream or  "pitch a fit." As for crowds, I distract myself with a book, music, or anything that makes me stay in my own head. I find that complete self-absorption is a necessary when you're empathic, otherwise you are anxious all the time. The shutting off comes with a price when I have to focus on a group or make a connection, I get bombarded by the feelings.

  2. Hello!  I've actually never found a way to close myself off entirely....but it does help to realize that these are not your feelings...just what you're picking up.  I try to at least dull those feelings a bit when they really get to me.....or else just turn the flow around right back to the person it's coming from.

Yeah - sometimes it can be hard to deal with...but like the other person on here said - once you learn to manage it, it can be quite a blessing.

  3. I know what you mean...you just have to realize you are picking up on others thoughts...not your own....try to re-focus on someone else or just get away from the sicko.

  4. Work on reflective qualities.  If you feel sick next to a rapist, reflect that sickness back to him.  Never try to close your mind, your entire life has been spent with this, shutting it off would be like giving yourself PTSD, physically changing your mind.  Don't do that.

Circular energies can help, it seems that you have a problem of taking in emotion, but not being able to apply it or direct it.  Simple things can help this.

Place your dominant hand above your receiving hand, see the energy of emotion making a ball between the two, alter it how it needs to be, and send it back out.  You could walk with your dominant hand open, to send out energy, and your receiving hand partially closed to limit how much you take in.  There are lots of things.

For now be grateful you don't feel your best friend in labor.

  5. I only found out last year.  I'm 38.  I use mirrors.  but you can use your own.  There are several techniques that can help defend against other people's energy.

This website has several techniques to try.

  6. Empathy can be quite a curse but when you learn to manage it, it becomes a blessing then.

Instead of closing your mind, let the lower vibrations flow through it.  Don't be defensive at all.
