  1. I believe that if you are in arrears, then, yes, they can. After all, what are you doing with a savings account if you are behind in child support?

  2. No, they can only deduct money direct from your employer.

Is it for arrears? CSA are renowned for being under pressure to retrieve arrears within the shortest time possible and will put a lot of pressure on you to pay as soon as possible. Don't let them bully you, my hubby had a problem with them. They ****** up his payments then expected him to pay £1000 in a matter of weeks. He fought it and won and is now paying it at £5 per week on top of normal payments.

  3. theyre gonna get money from anywhere they can to get money to help the custodial parent support your child...

  4. go on the csa website and get the number from where ur case is being sorted and ring them and ask i would have thought they would take from savings when its for a child but if i'm honest they are pretty useless u need your national insurance number when u ring them

  5. CSA have a habit of making up arrears so you should find out how they arrive at those arrears. You need to get an arrears break down and see if they have made a mistake (something that is far too common). If you have paid what they have asked then the mistake looks as if its theirs, but you need that breakdown.

You should also get a copy of your files quoting the freedom of information act. That should show all information on you, any letters etc sent to you, it can be most interesting!

Under the current system they are trying to get all arrears paid back inside 2 years, but you can negoiate despite what they may say at first, but it has to be a decent amount. They may tell you its the law, but its not, nowhere does it same in any child support law about 2 year pay back. Its worth a try, pray you get a decent caseworker.

Interestingly, although it may not apply to CS1 cases such as yours, if you are difficult they can impose a DEO (Direct Earnings order) which can only take 40% of your wage! Its not the best answer and your payroll section will know your paying CSA. It would be worth checking that with someone who knows the system inside out. There are some people on two sites, one run by martin Lewis and the other a government site (google Parentscentre)
