Hello everyone. I'm an American citizen born in N.Y.C. yet, living in South America. I've been an English teacher down here for over 12 years. My question is: Does anybody have

any pointers they wanna give me in order to land an English language teaching position in N.Y.C.? Thnx 'n God bless.

  1. Do you have your NY teacher certification? If you don't, and you know you want to teach English there, you should look into what you'd need to get it. You can find info on the state's Dept of Ed website.

    If you do have certification, it should be pretty easy for you to find a job in NYC. ESL teachers are in need there.


  2. look at the requirements you'll need to be a public school teacher in NYC - such as certain certificates, passing certain exams...etc.

    If you don't have one already make a portfolio with your resume, certificates, awards, lessons, activities, sample tests, essays, with your philosophy statement, introduction and conclusion

    Be read with a resume and at least 3 references

    Then just start applying!
