Can someone please tell me the best places to raise a family in Germany is? I am planning on moving to Germany with my wife and our three kids, but don't know where to go. We've been there to visit and love the country, but don't know where to settle. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

  1. My dad was in the Air Force, and we were stationed at Ramstein AB for two years (that's in the southwest). I personally loved it - the people were nice (mostly, I mean, you get your occasional grumpy old man, but really, everyone was nice) and it was close to Belgium and France. I think Paris was a five hour drive away?

I'm not sure if you want to move to a German town, or if you're asking which military base would be best. If just a German town, try moving next to a military base so that you can ease your way into German culture by having a few American people you can talk to when you get homesick. If a military base, I personally loved all the bases down in the southwest, and Heidelberg out east was also nice. You can't go wrong anywhere in Germany, really. I haven't been to the north (up by Berlin), but a few people have been and said that it's a bit cold, but nice.

    I hope this helps!

PS: You might also want to post a question about this in the Travel > Germany section of this site. More people might be familiar with Germany there.

  2. Berlin.

It´s totally international, vibrating new city.

English is widely spoken. Many beautiful apartments/houses for rent or sale at affordable prices (much better offer then anywhere else in Germany).

Town "with future"; so a good place for your children who may love it as their second home.

    Lovely surroundings. Great historical heritage.

The "heart of Europe". That´s how I like to call it.
