  1. I've taught SS for the very young (& also work w/preschoolers) and found that you have to keep their attention - and their attention span is very short.  I usually start with some songs - especially ones w/the motions - they love them. There are some great  children's CD's at your local religious store. Also, you will find some great books there to, believe me, it will bring the story right to their level.  Another fun activity is to have a 'flannel board' - which is just a board with flannel material glued on it.  Usually a blue is best. Then the characters in the story can be added, along with a background - like the story of Jesus and Zacheus.  A tree, with Zacheus in it, and Jesus standing there preaching - etc., I think you get the picture.  But, the kids can place the characters, etc.  Also, there are a lot of great pictures for the kids to color/cut/glue/etc.- your local religious shop is a gold mine.  Oh, and expect the unexpected...you wouldn't believe the questions and comments, "out of the mouth of babes" - God bless you.    P.S.  Soft (just music) playing in the background (can't be too loud) will also calm the children while they are working on their projects.  Be sure it can be completed in one Sunday, so they take something home with them that day.  Hope this helps!

  2. theach them with full effort an dsoon you will be best teacher in your school.

  3. Talk about holidays, go to the library and get books. there are many secular books that will relate to religious themes. Do carft projects that relate, again go to the library. you should find many books with projects there. HAve you looked in a Christain book store.

  4. Check this site:

  5. Singing and dancing is the only thing that will definitely hold the attention with the kids at our church.  Along with the fish playdough idea from above...fish crackers are a great snack for that age.  Giving them something to wear like badges/stickers/etc. helps to get the attention.  Anything that is physical is good.  Walking sticks from a nearby tree becomes staffs.  Felt picture boards...and let them choose which character to put on the board.  Just make sure they are involved.  And good luck, you should have LOTS of fun!!!

  6. I taught by acting out a lot of the ideas.  Remember to teach them that Jesus encouraged us to seek knowledge...it was a very important message. Talk to them about little lambs staying with their Moms. Have them sing a song about Jesus (lots of them on the internet). For instance, This Little Light of Mine. Talk about Christmas and it's meaning. It's Jesus's birthday...have a cake to celebrate.

  7. wow...you r doing an amazing job! I think a role play among the kids will do...It's more interesting rather than asking them to sit properly and listening the story from you...Of course, to make the story more vivid, u can do some masks( asking the kids to draw some characters in the bible story on some manila cards) and wear them while carrying out the play..

Good luck! p/s: I am Christian as well =)

  8. If there are too many or too few parts for the children there, you can still use activity and participation in the stories because you're right, they can't sit the whole time.

I used this with my son, who was very squirmy. I'd tell the story of the Lost Sheep and ask him to count with me, "One, two, three, four, all the way up to 100," and to make the sheep noise, "What do you suppose the 99 sheep said when they saw their friend come back?" and answer, "What did the shepherd do with his friends after he brought the sheep home?" Son, "Had a party!"

They could sway for a boat or make noises for the wind in other stories. Have them use playdough to make loaves and fishes for that story.

Songs are good for this age, too. This Little Light of Mind, Jesus Loves Me, Deep and Wide. Some have motions, too.

You are a braver woman than I, but the children will love you and you're setting a foundation that will sustain them through the difficulties they'll face.

  9. Evolution gramma , Evolution. bye
