  1. Goodness, this is a broad question.

It really depends on what your interested in.  I mean, personally I'm not into architecture (Sydney Opera House) but rather natural formations e.g. The 12 Apostles (Victoria).

Okay, let's see. I'm in the state of Queensland but I've travelled to most states.   Queensland has the awesome Carnarvon Gorge National Park which is truly gorgeous (allow at least 5 days though).  We also have Girraween, Cania Gorge and the Bunya Mountains National Parks. Both spectacular in their own right.

If you are after must see things, may I suggest the state of the Northern Territory (middle of Australia) for pure drop dead gorgeous, natural scenery. I'm thinking Ayers Rock (Ularu); The Olgas and Katherine Gorge (simply breathtakingly beautiful). Some people also like Kakadu (I didn't but we saw this in a LARGE group tour and we just didn't enjoy it).  In this way, if you are interested, you can take in some Aboriginal heritage/history as well.

Let's see.  If you are after beach stuff, I would suggest seeing The Great Barrier Reef which is off the Queensland Coast (east side of Australia).  There are lots of great islands to see too.  Heron Island has the turtles and marine bird life.

If you are after rainforest, think of Port Douglas and The Daintree (northern Queensland).

The state of Tasmania is a gorgeous, green gem of a place (bottom of Australia).  A must see is Freycinct National Park (Wine Glass Bay is a feast for the eyes and well worth the walk up this big hill) and Port Arthur.  If you're into hiking, there is the Tarkine, a place that time has forgotten (haven't been there but it is on my bucket list!).  Also, Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clair is gorgeous.

My all time favourite state is Victoria (south east Australia) as there is so much to do there and the place is really geared for tourists. You can do wineries (Yarra and Mt Macedon); see the wildlife/penguins (Port Phillip); see the ocean meeting awesome cliffs (Great Ocean Road and 12 Apostles); visit Port Napeon and Wilsons Prom.

Someone from the states of New South Wales and  South  Australia might be able to help you further with those places. I've been there but I didn't find them awesome. Oh, wait NSW has the Blue Mountains which look pretty gorgeous.

Our state capital Canberra located in the Australian Capital Territory is pretty neat.  It is very apparent that a lot of planning has gone into setting up a great little city.  Canberra has Parliament House, The Australian War Museum, The High Court etc.

I haven't been to Western Australia but it also looks gorgeous. They have Margaret River, Monkey Mia (dolphins), Broome (pearling history) and the Bungle Bungles (awesome mountain formations).

I hope this has given you a few ideas.

Have a safe, enjoyable trip when you get here.

  2. Australia is so big and diverse that it doesn't matter WHEN you come, you will have a good old time.

Pick the time around a particular event (say WOMADELAIDE or SYDNEY TO HOBART YACHT RACE or GRAND PRIX or MARDI GRAS) ...then you will need to come for a particular date.

Other wise, there are 4 seasons in the southern half of the country and 2 seasons in the top half (ie Wet & Dry).  We have deserts, tropics, beautiful clean cities (Melbourne is the best!!), country towns and the BEST beaches in the world.

  3. Ok there are basically three rough choice depending on your interests.

    1. Tourist Australia - Visit Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne. September - October is a nice time, I suggest starting at QLD and working your way down as Melbourne will be nicer closer to summer. You should allow 4-6weeks to get a decent experience.

    2. Outback Australia - Darwin, Alice Springs. Weather is these places is incredible warm, I suggest June as even at the coldest the temps are still in the 30s. Again 4 weeks would make a decent time frame. Outback Australia will definitly give you a difference experience.

    3. Extended Australia or Real Australia - Western Australia, Adelaide, Tasmania, see how Australians live without the touristy aspect. Real Australians in real towns. Perhaps a week to 10days in each. You could add this to the other trips if you like.

Or if you have the finances and time, spend 3 months and do the lot!

  4. Aw, come on guys! No mention of Adelaide?! There's not much to see but there are some very nice areas in South Australia, if you're into wine and such. It isn't particularly touristy though. I think the comments above me are nice and detailed. They should give you a good idea of where to go!

  5. Australia is vaste and each area is unique. It depends on what you like. If you go to the tropics then between April and september is the time as this is the dry season. The temperatures are beautiful then , hot but not to hot . If you go to Sydney or Melbourne winter is between june and august and that can get quite cool down there as we have the snowy mountains down South so it is the ski season. If you fancy brisbane and the Gold Coast any time of year is good our winters are mild with lovely sunny days . Sydney is a beautiful city with its magnificent harbour . There are some super drives out of Melbourne such as The Great Ocean Road. A wonderful holiday is Cairns to the Gold Coast by campervan. Her you can see The Great Barrier reef and the daintree from Cairns travelling South to Airlie Beach you can visit many tropical and beautiful Islands of The WhitSundays. down on the Gold Coast you have a 40 kilometre stretch of magnificent beaches plus Theme parks ,good shopping ,plenty of night life. Or you could choose a really unique amazing trip From The Tropics of darwin and hire car or campervan down to Perth in Western Australia a 4000 kilometre trip through the Kimberlies . So decide what you would like to see then make further enquiries. Good luck.http://www.australia.com/
