I just had an excellent experience with Virgin trains out of London Euston, book early on their website for best prices and treat yourself to first class!  Trainline and Qjump are good sites for price comparison, but the fare structures can appear to be complicated - the Virgin site is easier to deal with (although it seems to be broken right now)!

Virgin Trains are the quickest, and direct, alternatively you can take London Midland from Euston, and change trains at Birmingham New Street - it's a longer route with more stops, but may perhaps be cheaper.

however if you dont mind changing you can travel from London to Liverpool with a change en route with "London Midland"
