Hello i bought a res but i just wanna no whats the average growth rate for them

example if thier 1 inch now who long will it take them to be 2 or even 3 inchs long

  1. HI im aaron kostopolus i had a red eared slider a painter and a snapper and i had them in a 20 gal fish tank for around 6 years and they never grew and just recently i learned that turtles only grow so big up to there environment just like fish.

    If you had a little fish tank they wont grow as much as if they lived in a pond or lake or a big fish tank so if hes one inch in a 10 gal tank he will grow but he wond get full size ever so just make sure you got water food land a light etc and he will grow as much as he can up to his environment!  


  2. We measure turtles by 'Straight-line Carapace Length' (SCL)- the length of the shell from behind the head to above the tail in a straight line, rather than along the curve. You can expect the turtle to hit 4" SCL by its 4th year- often before it is 3.

    The growth curve varies all over the place, and depends on many things, including s*x, diet, temps, etc.

    An adult male RES can be 9" long, and a female 12".
