  1. I would imagine that either the post has been filled by a current member of staff or that the position is no longer needed.

    I don't think they're allowed to fill the position until after the closing date so that everyone has a fair chance of applying.

    If you really want the job I'd phone or email them and ask them what has happened and ask if this job or a similar job is open for you to apply to now or if one will come up soon.

  2. I would suggest it means that the job has been removed from the vacancy list.  This may be only temporary, so you should keep checking.

    It might also be a good idea to contact the company, and actually ask them this question.  This would demonstrate to them your enthusiasm for the job and they may remember it when you do get to apply.

  3. It does seem very odd to give a closing date of 11 February, then show the position as 'no longer active' on the 4th. What on earth does 'no longer active' mean anyway. It seems like meaningless HR jargon. I certainly would telephone and enquire.
