  1. Four years. There are different requirements in different states for the exact classes you'd take for certification. For example, in Kansas you are actually a "social studies" teacher and not a "history" teacher. I rather dislike that as I feel you have too wide a curriculum in college and don't get enough in depth history.

    Generally speaking however, you would come out with a degree in secondary education.

Depends on where you want to teach.  I would assume that if you wanted to teach at a lower-tier high school, you could start after you get your bachelor's (4yrs)  If you want to teach at a higher-tier high school, you probably should try to get your master's if financially possible (~6yrs).  Once you get your job, at a decent school, you'll be expected to continue taking classes.
