Cheapest seats I see available for upcoming month are with Northwest and Air France on select dates, $1171 USD r/t total with taxes and fees.  I see more availability, and slightly cheaper ($1150 r/t total) later in Fall. This from OTP (Bucharest).  

If not from Bucharest, then check for low-cost flights out of Romania to larger gateway airports in Europe.  http://www.whichbudget.com/#from28  ... And from there, onward to SLC.  It might be cheaper this way--on 2 separate tickets (but leave plenty of time, 4+ hours, to make connections!).

Try going on moneysupermarket.com. You can enter in the details for flights you want and it will find the cheapest available at the time. Good luck :)
