Question:

Helmet: Icon Airframe or Shoei RF1000?

Im in the market for a new helmet- i let my cousin borrow my new EXO1000 and he drops it on his tiled kitchen floor. SO he's buying me a new helmet.

I've heard that the ICON is uncomfortable, and doesn't breathe well. I like the looks of the solid black rubatone though.

The Shoei RF1000, IMO seems to be better engineered, looking, and I heard its super lightweight and vents extremely well.

What would you get? Does anyone own one of these helmets?

  1. Well thats funny because I have a RF1000 and my biker buds have the icon. One complaint they had was that the vent wasn't so great (although the helmet looks pretty sick) The Shoei RF1000 is a great helmet and the reviews are awesome. You can feel the air flowing through your hair at about 15mph which i like  alot. its also lightweight and very comfortable. The only problem I had with it was during the morning time. It would always fog up on me but once i put on the breath deflector (which comes with the helmet) it was fine. So I would highly recommend you to get the shoei. Its lightweight, very well ventilated and is all state of the art design allows it for better aerodynamics. You won't be dissappointed! good luck

  2. I had an ICON as I'd purchased protective gear of same mfg.

It did not breathe well.  Found HJC and KBC breathe better.

Bought both.  See no reason to try on Shoei too.

  3. Take the Shoei.

Been wearing an X-11 for awhile now.  Great helmets and great air circulation.

I have heard mixed reviews with the Icon, mostly unflattering.

  4. Madog , he needs it for his big wheel

  5. Icon is poser gear useless c**p just for looks. Get the Shoei.

  6. well my friend, i own sooooo many helmets, and you have to "feel" them for your self. What fits one person is h**l on another. But..... The Shoei RF 1000 has so many great reviews by real people on the internet it blows me away. Normally you dont see that. Id say its a very good helmet if it fits you.

My wife just got a  HKC  symax2 helmet which i was never a hkc fan, but it has a internal sun visor that can pop out ow the way etc. She loves it, might be my next helmet.

  7. If a helmet can't stand a 3 foot drop on the floor why spend a bunch of money on one?  Are you gonna borrow your cousins bike, since you don't have one.

  8. what do you need a helmet for? you just said the other day that you dont even have a bike,
